Macedonian Village

This piece evolved from my visit to Ochrid, Macedonia, where successive stories pile on top of each other, each level cantilevered out beyond the lower one, so that the structure expands and becomes wider as it becomes taller. This is very unique form of architecture, organically derived from local materials, and put together without machinery or much in the way of tools. As you walk through the alleys in between these buildings, the higher stories are very quite close to each other at the top. These beautiful dwellings house multiple family communities, using wooden beams, and walls of stacked sticks reinforced with mud. This is steel and concrete, about eight feet tall and three feet wide.
